Simplicity is Freedom

October 8, 2012

Have you ever noticed that the simple things in life sometimes stir the most gratitude in your heart?  We all experience times when we feel we are on top of the world and other times when we feel like we are disconnected from our spirits.   There is an old saying, “the deeper the sorrow, the deeper the joy.”  The lowest degree that we experience pain is in alignment with the highest degree that we experience pleasure.

When we are struggling to get somewhere that we perceive we wish to be in our lives, we experience stress because we notice that we are not yet there but the truth is, there is no there to get to.  Life is a series of choices, a journey, and with each choice, we turn a new or different road.  In my own experience, I kept waiting, working and scrambling for the “next big thing.”  I just wanted to get that job and when I got it, I just wanted to get that relationship, and when I got it, I just wanted to buy that house, and on and on.  While wanting to grow and evolve is natural human desire and nature, it was as though I had hollow legs and there was never enough love, money, sex, food, whatever.

At some point for us all, there comes a time when we are forced to hold still and look within.  For many of us this comes when we have lost it all, or have failed to get something we thought we really wanted.  Either way, all of the outer trappings no longer provide us with what our spirits really crave.   People, places and things are wonderful as far as they go but they don’t fill the hole in your soul.   Acknowledging that your needs are met, that you will indeed be taken care of by the universe, that all that you have right now is exactly what you are meant to have right now, allows you be happy and at peace with your present circumstances.  This simple attitude creates;

  • Gratitude for what you do have
  • Release from the stress that comes with trying to constantly keep up with a high maintenance lifestyle
  • A connection with yourself and with your spirit
  • Renewed hope that you can begin again and continue moving forward toward your dreams

The definition of simple is freedom from complexity, intricacy, or division into parts.  When you are free from complexity and intricacy, you are free to be your whole self, undivided.  “Life is amazingly good when it’s simple and amazingly simple when it’s good.”  ~Terri Guillemets…………………Optimists Rock!
